Welcome aboard Lene...*VBS*

I'm so happy that we 'paused' in that dry gulch to see about 'taking on water'. New volunteers and wonderful creations from orphan blocks emerged as a result...*VBS* Our newest volunteer is Lene. And this is her Orphan Block quilt + one..a second quilt being made from the crumbs. Way to go Lene!!! I absolutely LOVE this quilt top! The fact I'm VERY fond of red and brown together might be a clue!! There is such a nice variety of blocks and distribution of color. Altho it was created in parts, it has a very organized, unified feeling. Here is what Lene had to say about her quilt, in the email I received yesterday : "I have attached, I hope, (have never attached pictures in e-mail before) pictures of my most recently completed quilt top and some blocks that I made from the crumbs from the first."

This redwork quilt is not strictly an orphan, more like a blended-family type quilt. I had the twelve-redwork baskets, (they were a handwork take along project several summers ago while away from my sewing machine), The next summer, while in the Lancaster PA area I purchased the flowered border fabric and there it all set until I saw the orphan block quilts. I had the geese, the logs, square in squares, leaves, the postage stamp blocks and some of the appliqué then whenever I would see an unusual block or a new technique I would make a six or nine inch block of it in the colors of the border fabric.

This quilt was so fun to make, I got a chance to try out blocks that I would never make a whole quilt of, and I am tickled to have yet another UFO to the TOP stage thanks to you and everyone’s inspiration.

After completing the redwork and orphan top I had this basket full of scraps, enough to make 42 six inch crumb blocks. I haven't set them together yet.
