as we continue our journey, the view from the window changes as we go. New vistas are revealed. In yesterday's comments, a new face or two. Today, I'm welcoming Ila aboard. The little quilts today, were made either by her DH's Aunt, or back in Aunt Hanna's time. I popped over to see where Ila blogged, and found these. I asked permission to share them, they are just too SPECIAL not to be shared with the rest of the orphan train travelers!! "This past week, we remembered and honored my husband's aunt, JoHanna Kool.A doll quilt made by DH's grandmother. Not even close to square, so cute in a primitive way."
"Yo-yo doily. Most of the fabric is cotton, some might be rayon, as is very fragile. This one needs plenty of TLC before it can be displayed."
"Close up of yo-yo's. I think some of these may have been feedsacks, even though they did not live on a farm. DH's grandfather passed away at a very young age, leaving his grandmother to raise 4 children, the youngest (DH's father) was not yet 5. So I imagine that people would have shared resources that they could to help out. Hannah was the 2nd of the 4 children."
Finn sez: what wonderful remembrances of Aunt Hanna! And treasures to own as well. Not many doll quilts survived all the love and rough use they received, and the ones that turn up 'in family' are doubly special..*VBS* The fact that Ila is a quilter makes it just that much more special. I love the first one...very much an orphan block quilt!!! We are lucky to get to see little treasures among us, like this one! Thank you Ila! And welcome aboard!
