Today's orphans almost fit a category, but not totally...*VBS* What I'm giving you is the result of Jeanne's digging

got the best of her and she went searching. Needless to say, she uncovered JUST a few that she could play with. It sounds like the first two pictures(which are both Jeanne's) are destined to be two quilt tops. I like the division of colors. That works really well sometimes. I, of course, would be leaning towards playing with the primarily red ones...*VBS*. That was the appeal of my Yuletide blocks...lots of red and white.

I think with Marcie, we are up to 14 who have voluntarily shared their orphan block expericnces with us. And there are names listed in the participants(of the challenge) that I need to check and see how they are coming. Feel free to drop me an email, or a comment making me aware of your progress as you begin your orphan block journey. I'm just the organizer and blog-tender for this challenge...*VBS* I've been a tat under the weather most of yesterday, apparently more smoke inhalation at the fireworks, and later, than my system could handle. With the chronic asthma, I begin with compromised lungs. That plus the very humid conditions on the fourth, combine to kind of 'do me in'. Trouble is, you don't always know you've hit a toxic level until it's already happened and there isn't enough oxygen in your bloodstream. So I'm 'house bound' with the AC cranked til I get past the nausea and drowsiness.
This last little quilt is an 'orphans shared' effort. Bonnie and Tonya had a couple play days in FL before Ton went to Paris. They made crumb blocks with Bonnie's tinest scraps, and Tonya's brighst. These 'crumbs' were Bonnie's, left behind for Ton to use. The letters(I think) are Tonya's altho I seem to remember that the discarded V is a Bonnie reject.
Tonya chose to combine the leftovers and send them on to Bonnie, quilted but needing binding. A really fun and meaningful kind of sharing between friends....*VBS* Orphan block quilts can be any size at all!!
This was the pile of orphan blocks that she sorted from the others, and called "Christmas Orphans". *VBS*(I also has ventured into this challenge with Yuletide Orphans in hand)
And this is the first of what Jeanne did with those particular orphans...in her own words...."This finished wall hanging uses a pine tree block left over from a long-ago swap. That particular block has been aging for almost a decade! (I think it may have been Amy who asked where my orphan blocks come from: I used to be heavily involved with swapping. And sometimes I make test blocks before I undertake a new project. And sometimes I'm just puttering. Somehow, they're just there.) Anyway, the snowballs and 9ps were newly created to make this 40" piece. I'm calling it "Cedar" because the real cedar trees in my area have thick tan trunks like this".
Of course that gorgeous wall hanging DIDN'T use up all the Christmas Oprhan blocks, so she created this little gem also. I was happy to read, at her blog Spiral, that she really likes this one too. Way to go Jeanne....high five for alllll those unused and unloved blocks hacing a new home in a quilt!!!
