Yankee Quilter's Orphans....

and lucky, lucky yankee quilter!! I absolutely adore this orphan top, and I don't 'gush'! This one was shown on Yankee Quilters blog, http://scrapsandthreadtales.blogspot.com/ a few weeks
ago. I haven't stopped raving about it since..LOL, some of these beauties hit you that way...love and fascination. I think partly it is the sheer number of pieces and orphan parts. It doesn't seem to be that many orphan blocks, as such. In looking closely and studying it, the maker has constructed it in rows, left to right. She's done an excellent job of getting that harvest type gold sprinkled through out the top. It 'grabs' your eye in much the same way the spots of yellow do in Jeanne's second quilt.
There is always so much to be learned if we just slow ourselves down long enough to take a really GOOD look. There is quite alot of the raspberry type pink, and often it's combined with a brown. That represents a certain time period in quilting history. It's been enjoying a revival recently in the Dear Jane quilts. Bonnie is working with those colors on her second DJ...check out www.quiltville.com . In historic terms, while we are in admiration of the truly fine heirloom quilts, these Plain Jane quilts, made to warm the family, to hold the home together in comfort, tell a truer story. And often they would be equally hard to duplicate. Hug your orphans...*VBS*
