This treasure arrived in my email box this morning. It lives with Donna, in Ohio and is called My Favorite Things...*VBS* Believe it or not, it IS an orphan blocks quilt. I think probably the checkerboards were pieced to use as the filler, and since she was taking this as a class she got to make it 'their' way, or hers, I'm not sure. Either way, it's a very effective way to set the orphans.
Being clever with these unwanted, unloved little blocks is the point.
I don't know if Donna has a blog or not, maybe she'll send me another email and let me know. In the meantime Donna, thank you for sharing your wonderful creation with us. Come back and visit it often....*VBS*

Well now I might have to dig out my orphans and see what I have. Looks like a great varity of orphans out there. I do love yours though, I think it is my favorite. I remember the first time I saw the picture, I thought it was a pattern and I wanted it. Then I found out it was extra blocks. Just love it.
Finn...Pass on to Donna that this is a truly beautiful quilt, great use of colors...I absolutely love this!!!
Finn, the new blog looks great. The filler on this quilt really is marvelous. what fun treasures you're discovering. by the way, my quilt top really is named Orphan Train, in your honor.
What a great way to use a limited number of blocks to make an orphan quilt! I think I'd get bored making all those 9 patches, but I really like the way this quilt looks.
