Linda tells me in email, that she has more blocks at home, and even MORE coming from her Mom in Illinois. For sure, she says, another Orphan Quilt is going to happen. Linda makes 'tons' of quilts for kids all over the world, including right there in Alabama where she lives. She sewed with a group of VERY talented ladies called the 'Bama Belles, and their main focus is making quilts for kids. This year more than 60 quilts were provided for a Boys Ranch, and last years at least that many went to the Girls Ranch. Each child gets their own, to keep and the Belles make sure there are extras for newcomers!!Their group is a branch of Wrap Them in Love, an organization that provides quilts to children around the world. There is always a fabulous quilt show on Lindas blog, and also at the Wrap Them In Love.org website. You can link there directly or from Linda J's blog.
Cher(one of future participants) who blogs at Marathon Quilter,(http://cherzoe.blogspot.com/) is also a member of a group who supports the WTIL organization, as do I.Altho I don't belong to a group(altho I'm told I'm an honorary 'Belle *VBS* YUP!I AM... LINDA CONFIRMED IT IN COMMENTS *G*) I send fabric for backings and finished tops to Linda J. If any of you aren't sure what to do with your Orphan Train quilt once it's finished, consider donating it to Wrap Them In Love. Blushing here---we have donated 1575 quilts since Jan 2000. Think of how many kids that has touched. I sure didn't do all that by myself and thank my group every day for their continued commitment.
Oh, the backing is scrappy too---just finished sewing that togther before lunch. Binding awaits but first I am opening up this challenge box from Ellen to see what goodies she stuffed in there. More ammunition??
Oh, and you ARE an honorary Belle, Finn. You keep me inspired with your tops and the fabric that heads down this way as well as your blog postings. When will I learn to complete a thought before I hit send?
That's a very pretty quilt. Gives me good setting ideas. Bravo for all the donated quilts. That's a LOT of quilts!!!
